Classic Butter Biscuits Recipe

Ingredients:

2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour

1 tbsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

½ cup (115 g) cold unsalted butter, cubed

¾ cup (180 ml) cold milk (or buttermilk for extra tenderness)

1 tbsp sugar (optional, for a lightly sweet biscuit)

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Mix dry ingredients – whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

3. Cut in butter – use your fingers or a pastry cutter until the mixture looks crumbly with pea-sized bits of butter.

4. Add milk – pour in cold milk and stir gently just until dough comes together (don’t overmix).

5. Shape – turn onto a floured surface, gently pat into a 2 cm (¾-inch) thick round. Cut biscuits using a round cutter.

6. Bake – place biscuits on the tray (close together for soft sides, spaced apart for crispier edges).

7. Brush tops with milk or melted butter. Bake 12–15 minutes until golden brown.

8. Serve warm with butter, cream, or jam.
