Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk Recipe

Here’s a Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk recipe — perfect for baking, coffee, or desserts when you want a rich, creamy, sweet base without the store-bought version.

🥫 Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk

Ingredients:

1 cup whole milk (or evaporated milk for extra richness)

1 cup granulated sugar

2 tablespoons unsalted butter (optional, adds creaminess)

½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for flavor)

Instructions:

Combine milk and sugar in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Stir constantly until the sugar fully dissolves (about 2–3 minutes).

Bring to a gentle simmer — do not boil. Reduce heat to low.

Simmer uncovered, stirring occasionally, for 30–40 minutes. The mixture should reduce by about half and thicken slightly. It will thicken more as it cools.

Remove from heat. Stir in butter and vanilla (if using) until smooth.

Let cool, then store in a glass jar or airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Makes: About ¾ cup to 1 cup

Use for:

Tres leches cake, Thai iced tea, key lime pie, fudge, or coffee creamer.
